PILATES

Pilates is a system of exercise that allows you to take control of mind and body. It uses smooth, flowing movements that tone and stretch your body and increase strength and flexibility in muscles and joints. It also utilizes the power of the mind to help with the exercises and to increase the harmony between body and mind.

Pilates exercises are low-impact free hand exercises founded by Joseph H Pilates. The Pilates system offers a complete work-out for the body that exercises not just the main muscle groups, but weaker, less used muscles too. It therefore enables you to achieve a toned, healthy body and realize your true fitness potential. It is also an exercise system that is open to all, because anyone of any age can do it.

Pilates, like any other good exercise program, provides a lot of benefits to your body and mind, if practiced regularly. These are :-

  1. A well balanced body and well coordinating mind.
  2. Reduced stress and tension.
  3. Well functioning internal organs and body systems.
  4. Increased oxygen intake due to better breathing techniques and better blood circulation.
  5. Improved immune system.
  6. A well toned body with better strength, endurance and focused mind.

Most of the Pilates exercises are

  • Standing hand movements in all directions step by step
  • Sitting on chair body twist, body bend,
  • Lying on floor head lift, simultaneous hands - legs movements, body twisting, alternate hand – leg movements etc.
  • In modern time some light instruments and swiss balls are also used to practice pilates and get additional benefits.
