It is necessary to know our joints to enable us help others
suffering from joints problems, wherever possible without medication.
There are 206 bones in the body of various sizes and shapes.
All these bones are joined together to form the skeleton. Thse
joints vary depending on the functional requirement.
The most common form of joint is synovial joints having the
greatest range of movement between the bones. The bone-ends
where they join are covered by highly slippery articular cartilage.
The bone ends with their cartilage covering are enclosed within
joint capsules. On the inside of the capsule there is a lining
of synovial membrane. This produces oily fluids which lubricates
and nourishes the articular surface. Bones are joined together
with ligaments which provide extra stability wherever necessary.
A lot of wear and tear is caused in ligaments due to sports
activities.
Following are the examples of synovial
joints :
(1) Ball & Socket Joint : this type of joint
has enormous range of movement in all directions. Example is
Shouler and Hip joints.
(2) Hinged Joint : these joints allow just
one direction of movement. Example is finger joints.
(3) Saddle Joint : this kind of joint & bend
forward, backward, slide side ways but cannot rotate. Example
is thumb joint.
(4) Sliding Joints : In this kind of joint
only a small amount of movement occurs by way of slipping, sliding.
Example of this is where collar bone meets the shoulder blade.
Few of the joints problems can be healed with the help of
steam therapy, proper massage and stretches and specific low
impact exercises, depending upon the intensity of problems.
First course of action should be to see a doctor to rule out
the possibiltiy of internal bleeding / damages.
For shoulder joints few safe exercises
are : Shrugg, Shoulder joint rotation.
For Knee joint the effective exercises
are : Leg extension in lying, sitting & standing position.
Selective yogasanas and healthy diet also
