Acupressure - Acupressure is an ancient Chinese technique which involves the use of finger pressure on specific points along the body. It is a way of accessing and releasing blocked or congested energy centres in the body. According to Chinese cultures these points are junctures of meridian pathways that carry energy called chi. Western scientists have also now proven the existence of these points along the body. Acupressure massage therapy stimulates and activates the body’s own energies to help fight illness and restore harmony. Points on the body are massaged using finger or thumb, and sometimes a blunt object, in a fairly rapid circular motion with a medium pressure. Acupressure can help alleviate pain, headaches, dizziness, menstrual pain, digestive disorders, nausea, motion sickness, stress and tiredness.

Acupuncture - Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. It originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. The term acupuncture describes a family of procedures involving stimulation of anatomical points on the body by a variety of techniques. The acupuncture technique that has been most studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manipulated by the hands or by electrical stimulation. Most feel no or minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some people are energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed. Improper needle placement, movement of the patient, or a defect in the needle can cause soreness and pain during treatment. In Chinese tradition, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yang. Yin represents the cold, slow, or passive principle, while yang represents the hot, excited, or active principle. Health is achieved by maintaining the body in a "balanced state" and disease occurs due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of Qi (vital energy) along pathways known as meridians. It is believed that there are 12 main meridians and 8 secondary meridians and that there are more than 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body that connect with them.

Aromatherapy - Aromatherapy means "therapy i.e. treatment with aromas i.e. perfumes or scents". It is a natural treatment for the body’s ordinary sicknesses with pleasant smelling botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender, pine, peppermint and so many others. These essential oils are added to the bath or massaged into the skin, inhaled directly or diffused to scent an entire room. Aromatherapy is used for the relief of pain, care for the skin, alleviate tension and fatigue and invigorate the entire body. Essential oils can affect the mood, alleviate fatigue, reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. When inhaled, they work on the brain and nervous system through stimulation of the nerves and produces the desired effect.
The essential oils are extracted from plants, flowers, trees, fruits, bark, grasses and seeds with distinctive therapeutic properties, which improve and prevent illness. Most of these oils have antiseptic properties; some are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant. Other properties of the essential oils which are taken advantage of in aromatherapy are their stimulation, relaxation, digestion improvement, and diuretic properties. To get the maximum benefit from essential oils, it should be made from natural, pure raw materials. Synthetically made oils do not work.

Chiropractic - The chiropractic originates from two Greek words kheir, which means 'hand', and praktikos, which means 'practical'. A school of chiropractic was established in about 1895 by a healer called Daniel Palmer (1845 - 1913). Palmer formed the opinion that if there was any displacement in the skeleton this could affect the function of nerves, either increasing or decreasing their action and thereby resulting in a malfunction i.e. a disease.
Chiropractic is used to relieve pain by manipulation and to correct any problems that are present in joints and muscles but especially the spine. In chiropractic no use of drugs or surgery is made. However, the majority of chirpractor's patients suffer mainly from neck and back pain.

Hydrotherapy - Hydrotherapy is use of water to heal and ease a variety of ailments, and the water may be used in a number of different ways. The healing properties of water have been recognized since ancient times, notably by the Greek, Roman, and Turkish civilizations. the benefits of a hot bath is in relaxing the body, relieving muscular aches and stiffness, and helping to bring about restful sleep. Hot water or steam causes blood vessels to dilate, opens skin pores and stimulates perspiration, and relaxes limbs and muscels. A cold bath or shower actis in the opposite way and is refreshing and invigoratin. The cold causes blood vessels in the skin to constrict and blood is diverted to internal tossies and organs to maintain the core temperature of the body. Applications of cold water or ice reduce swelling and bruising and cause skin pores to close.
Hydrotherapy is also used as a technique of physiotherapy for people recovering from serious injuries with problems of muscle wastage. Also, it is used fro people with joint problems and those with severe physical disabilities.

Massage therapy - Massage Therapy has four main stages of healing through massage: relief, correction, strengthening, and maintenance. 1) Relief: The first few sessions of massage therapy will be aimed to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension and relax stressed nerves. 2) Correction : When the pain is gone, the therapist will work on the problem that caused the pain. Techniques will be aimed at stimulating your lymphatic system and freeing knotted and scarred muscle fibers. 3) Strengthening : Strengthening is important in a badly damaged area. Weakness at the injury site can mean recurring problems. Techniques are aimed at strengthening the tissues near the injury enabling them to provide adequate support to heal the injury. 4) Maintenance : Maintenance is the final stage of therapy. Maintenance techniques are aimed at treating the problem and preventing the occurrence of new problems.

Osteopathy - Osteopathy is a technique that uses manipulation and massage to help distressed muscles and joints and make them work smoothly. The profession began in 1892 when Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, and American farmer, inventor and doctor, opened the USA's first school of osteopathic medicine. The therapy aims to pinpoint and treat any probles that are of a mechanical nature. The body's frame consists of the skeleton, muscles, joints and ligaments and all movements or activities such as running, swimming, eating, speaking and walking depend upon it.
An osteopath needs to know the complete history of any problems experienced, how they first occurred and what eases or aggravates matters. Patient's case history forms the basis of treatment. The osteopath recommends a number of things so that patients can help themselves between treatment. Techniques such as learning to relax, how to stand and sit correctly and additional exercises can be suggested. During treatment Osteopath gently manipulates the joints resulting lessining the tenseness in the muscles. He can also use massage to its good effects.

Reiki - Reiki is a form of massage therapy. It is a healing technique that originated in Tibet and has been practiced for over 2,500 years. It is believed that reiki can relieve pain, boosts the immune system and relieves acute problems because physical manifestations of pain are often linked to emotional, mental and spiritual states. Reiki practice consists of the practitioner placing his hands upon the person to be healed with the intent for healing to occur, and then the energy begins flowing. The reiki practitioner uses their hands to channel energy from the universe to your body so your body can heal itself.

Reflexology - Reflexology is a gentle form of therapeutic treatment applied to the feet and sometimes to the hands. Reflexology is considered to be a holistic healing technique that aims to treat the individual as a whole, in order to induce a state of balance and harmony in body, mind and spirit. Reflexology is based on the belief that there are reflex areas on the feet corresponding to all the parts of the body including major organs. The body can be divided into ten vertical zones, each corresponding to an area of the foot, so that the feet are in effect a map of the body. The feet provide an image of the body, with the head represented by the big toe, the inner arches as the spine, and the heel defining the pelvic area. The right foot corresponds to the right hand side of the body and the left foot to the left, and the internal organs are then located in relation to the skeleton. It is believed that applying pressure to specific areas on the feet can affect internal organs and body systems, and therefore promote good health. The therapist stimulates and works these organs and systems through the reflexes areas on the feet, applying pressure with thumb and fingers. Pressure is applied to clear out congestion and restore normal functioning and health.

Shiatsu - Shiatsu is a Japanese word. It means ‘finger pressure’, Shi means ‘finger’ & Atsu means ‘pressure’. A Shiatsu treatment however also uses thumbs, palms, knees, forearms, elbows and feet. Pressure is applied to the areas of energy lines (meridians) to promote good health by 'stimulating the body’s energy flow (Qi). The Shiatsu session often begins with gentle stretching and manipulation techniques to help stimulate the movement of energy and to relax the muscles. Pressure can be applied to both wide areas as well as precise points and varied according to the body’s needs. Shiatsu can help alleviate the pain associated with a wide range of conditions. It can also assist an individual with their self development and self healing; balancing the underlying causes of a condition. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience due to its effects on the stimulation of the circulatory, lymphatic, hormonal systems and nervous system. Following a Shiatsu treatment, the individual may have feelings of increased vitality and relaxation.
